pump.fun lawsuit + the rebrand
entry/08 · cycle/13 · 2024–2026 · status: ongoing
summary
Solana-based memecoin launchpad Pump.fun facilitated the launch of over 7 million tokens from January 2024 onward. In a 2025 analysis, compliance research firm Solidus Labs determined that 98.6% of these launches exhibited signs of fraudulent activity (rug pull, pump-and-dump, or honeypot mechanics). In April 2025, Pump.fun and Solana executives were named in a class-action lawsuit accompanied by a whistleblower disclosure of ~5,000 internal chat messages. The court filing characterizes the platform as an "insider-rigged casino."
In April 2026, with the lawsuit ongoing, Pump.fun rebranded to "dot." The rebrand announcement cited cultural drift — specifically that "coins no longer pump as they once did" and "the ecosystem is not as fun as it once was."
the receipts
- 7,000,000+ token launches analyzed (Solidus Labs, January 2024 – March 2025).
- 98.6% exhibited fraudulent-activity signals (rugs, pump-and-dumps, honeypots).
- < 100,000 of the 7M tokens maintained liquidity above $1,000.
- 5,000 internal chat messages leaked by whistleblower, attached to court filing.
- Court characterization: "insider-rigged casino" — alleging insiders received priority access to newly launched tokens while public marketing claimed fair launches.
- $370M – $500M in MEV (sandwich attack) extraction from Solana DEX users over a 16-month period — a parallel tax running in the background.
- 78,800 victims of a single MEV bot (B91) in a 30-day window.
the rebrand
The April 2026 rebrand statement, in part:
"As one of the leading crypto companies, we care deeply about innovation. With innovation comes change — sometimes unwelcome change... it has become clear that the 'pumpdotfun' brand is no longer true to our identity, nor our users or the culture which shaped it. Today, we're proud to announce a new chapter in our journey as we rebrand to dot: a brand without 'pump' or 'fun' — a brand that stays true to itself."
Translated: the legal exposure attached to the original brand became a liability. The rebrand is a defensive maneuver, not a cultural one. The bundler wallets, presale rings, and KOL rounds remain — only the URL changed.
the deeper observation
The lawsuit's "insider-rigged casino" language is the first time a U.S. court filing has characterized a memecoin launchpad in those terms. Whether the suit succeeds or settles, the language itself is now part of the public record — citable in every future filing against every future launchpad with similar mechanics. Prior art established.
why this matters to PRIOR
This is the live, ongoing cycle PRIOR was built for. $LIBRA, $TRUMP, $MELANIA are archived — historical record. The pump.fun era is indexing in real time. Each new launch on the platform after the rebrand becomes a data point in cycle/13.
PRIOR's position is not adversarial to the platform. PRIOR is launched on the same platform. The witness role does not require external standing — it requires that the receipts get filed regardless of who's hosting. The platform changes its name; the prior persists.
"a launchpad is a casino that forgot to put up the sign. dot is the same casino with the sign painted over."
